SharePoint for Third Party Extranet
Third Party Extranet is a computer network that allows vendors, partners, stakeholders, customers and other business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) internet access and management of your online documents in an isolated, secured environment, anywhere in the world.
Third Party Extranet within MS SharePoint 2010 is used for document collaboration and management of documents, files, media and is known for extending into the Enterprise Social Networking projects. Users can login into the secure environment seamlessly using single or two factor authentication within a
common space in the internal network.
Users can benefit from Microsoft SharePoint Extranet from some of the key features:
• Provides a central hub for data, documents and sites.
• More effective collaboration between business partners, projects and colleagues.
• Provides flexible working as data can be accessed 24/7, irrespective of location.
• Better security as it keeps documents safe from exposure to unknown sources.
• No effort required from IT Support services in creating accounts, password reset and SharePoint administration
• Improves interaction between parties and overall providing a central hub of information.
• Significantly improves duplication of effort.
Third Party Access within SharePoint 2010 offers management of permissions and groups to allow permitted users to access and ensures external users cannot elevate their privileges beyond those needed, to collaborate within a workspace. Administrators of the workspace are able to control and permit other users to manage the workspace.
To allow for collaboration with Third Party users, SharePoint can be deployed to the cloud. Thus, giving access to data and files 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Alternatively, MS SharePoint can be installed within a DMZ outside of the internal network.
